Wardrobe plays a huge part in how your overall session will look and will bring the final masterpiece all together . This will help to tell the story and really make the subject (you) pop. In this guide, I will help you to plan your next step after booking your portrait session. This guide will explain what colors look best for the season and suggestions on where to shop for every budget!
Comfort
Above all….. COMFORT. I want all clients to be super comfortable in front of my camera because capturing who you are is so extremely important. The last thing I want is for my clients to feel uncomfortable in what they are wearing. The wardrobe you select should make you feel amazing! For children, make sure they are not wearing anything that would make them feel restricted or anything that they wouldn't typically wear. For example, if your princess does not care for dresses, go with a cute romper or pants. For the women (especially moms) don’t wear dresses to short, as there is a good chance we will sit for part of our portrait session. Remember, we want to tell a story so being comfortable is crucial here.
Coordinate, not match
Gone are the days of matching each family member in matching outfits. I know this may seem like an easy solution but too much matching can cause clashing. This is your chance to get super creative and show us who you are! Start with colors that emphasize the season and/or location. Solid colors such as mustard yellow for the fall or pastel colors such as pink for spring, work great! I will provided some color pattern ideas below.
For the ladies, long skirts flow amazingly in photos! Check out one of my favorite skirts here (they come in so many amazing colors). Pair this skirt with a lace shirt or a sweater and mom is good to go!
Let’s talk shoes
Yes! Even shoes can play a major role here. You would be surprised where you can find some of the most decently priced and cute shoes too! Places such as Target, Nordstrom Rack, and Old Navy are a great place to start! Look for shoes that will accent your wardrobe. Don’t be afraid to throw in some cute knee high socks for your princess! Session being held on the beach? Don’t even worry about it! Barefoot is the best!
